- Mixing together an alkoxide, an alc., & water to produce
a plurality of polymerized soln formulated to provide
transparent thin-film layers having different refractive indices
- Repeatedly applying a separate polymerized soln to the
transparent substrate, wherein an amount of the soln adhe
res to the substrate following each application &
- Immediately following each application, curing the adhered
soln to form a separate polymerized thin-film layer on subs
trate
Wherein repeatedly applying & then curing produces a succession of overlaying thin-film layers, with refractive indices of the successive layers being alternately high & low rel. to each other
Wherein the alkoxide soln that are used to produce thin-film layers having rel. high refractive indices include Ti isopropo
xide & layers produced using such soln include polymerized TiO2
Wherein alkoxide soln that are used to produce thin-film layers having rel. low refractive indices include tetraethyl orthosilicate & layers produced using such soln include polymerized SiO2
Wherein at least one of the polymerized soln produced in mixing surther includes discrete particles having concn in soln < 0.1% & av size < 10 microns
Wherein the successive polymerized layers cooperate to form a multi-layer, diffuse antireflection coating
