Method of prepg a photosensitive emulsion comprising tabular AgX grains rich in AgBr, having {100} major faces & an aspect ratio > 1.5, wherein > 50% of the projected area of all grains is provided by said {100} tabular grains, said method comprising the step of running in a reaction vessel an aq Ag salt soln. & an aq alkali halide soln. rich in alkali bromide, characterized in that before starting running the said reaction vessel comprises in an aq soln of gelatin an amount of amino-modified PVA, wherein in said aq soln. the ratio by wt. of said amino-modified PVA to gelatin is > 1:5 & an upper limit of said ratio is 1:1 & wherein said gelatin is oxidized gelatin, having methionine in an amount < 30 micro.moles per mole of gelatin
