Condensation of
- Phenol with
- Glyoxylic acid (OHC-COOH)
in inert atm. in aq soln in presence of tert. amine & trivalent metal cation catalyst at < 100C characterized in that process is carried out in 2 series reactors (R1 & R2), the first being supplied by first tank C1 contg glyoxilic acid & catalyst & by second tank C2 contg phenol & amine & reaction effluent from R1 & consisting of aq & org. phase is transferred into first of 2 mixer-decanters (MD1 & MD2) installed in series, that aq phase of MD1 is recovered in order to extract expected target prodt from it, while org phase from MD1 is transferred to MD2 & washed with water & that the org. phase of MD2 is transferred to C2
