Extruded filtration material comprising on dry basis (a) Inorganic filler (60-85%) selected from vermiculite, alumina, Al hydroxide, C, chalk & Al silicates (b) Polysaccharide expansion medium (5-20%) (c) Binder (5-25%) (d) Water During the extrusion of which extruded filtration material the water vaporizes to steam upon extrusion of material from extruder die, the material thereby assuming a cross-section greater than cross-section of exit orifice of extruder die, the inorganic filler being selected so that the melting point thereof is > operating T of extrusion process at any particular operating pressure & there thereby being imparted a cellular structure which structure provides passage of air &/or smoke, the material being degradable |
