Method of enclosing & protecting surfaces of metallic object against corrosion through use of vapor corrosion inhibitor while metal object is confined within a skin packaging env. the steps comprising - Prepg substrate board - Mixing thermally activated adhesive with vapor phase corro sion inhibitor (alkali molybdate, alkali nitrites, triazoles, ami ne salts) - Selecting thermal-forming resin film comprising copolymer of ethylene & vinyl acid monomer & with said ionomer film compatible with adhesive - Blending corrosion inhibitor with resin film to form skin packa ging film - Applying said film onto surface of substrate - Positioning substrate in sealing station with the metallic object to be protected disposed on surface thereof & with said skin packaging film being superimposed over substra te - Heat. skin packaging film to its formable T - Positioning said skin packaging film onto surface of substra te with predetermined areas of film being in face-to-face contact with said adhesive layer while at said formable T & forming a precursory enclosure about metal object - Immediately evacuating said enclosure to simultaneously draw said packaging film about periphery of metal object & causing sublimation of corrosion inhibitor while bonding & sealing film surface to adhesive layer |
