Method for de-compn of hydrocarbons for the production of H & C black using a reaction chamber having a plasma torch located adjacent one end thereof & an exit at the opposite end & inlets disposed about a portion of chamber for supplying a quenching fluid, said torch including a lead-in tube, comprising the steps of feeding a hydrocarbon feedstock through a lead-in tube of torch while controlling T of lead-in tube so that feedstock will have T 650-700C - Subjecting feedstock to first uniform heating by means of plasma generated by plasma torch - Feeding the feedstock & plasma H gas for forming a plas ma at resp. pressures to cause mixing of said feedstock & H gas in an area immediately beyond the H plasma at > 1600C to cause decompn of feedstock & the generation of free H & dehydrogenated C material, which material passes to a further zone of chamber at 1200-1600C where final & complete decompn of feed stock to C black & H is perfor med & including the further step of adding quenching fluid comprising hydrocarbon material which reacts with the already produced C black to thereby increase the particle size, d., & quantity without consumption of further energy - Sischarging & separating the reaction prodts & passing any hot gas generated through a return pipe to the plasma torch |
