PATENT CLAIMS - Selecting a detectable agent which emits an electromagne
tic emission, said agent being selectively removed from
body fluid in patient's body by renal cells in said body &
wherein emission occurs in body fluid in said body
- Introducing said agent into body fluid, which body fluid
contacts renal cells
- Measuring emission from body portion in patient's body
through which said body fluid passes wherein said emissio
n results from agent not yet removed from body fluid at time
of said measuring
- Determining physiological function based on measurement
of said emission
Wherein said agent is a dye which fluoresces at first wavelength upon being irradiated with light of second wavelength & wherein dye is fluorescein labeled, succinylated poly-d-lysine
Wherein prior to measuring step, said body portion through which said body fluid passes is irradiated with said second wavelength light, causing dye to fluoresce at first wavelength
Wherein said emission being measured is fluorescence of said dye at first wavelength
Wherein said determn of physiological function is based on measurement of fluorescence of first wavelength
