DESCRIPTION |
Co. has technology for increasing the ascorbic acid content in plants. This has potential benefits for producing crops and produce with higher nutritional value or naturally protecting plants from environmental stress. The ascorbic acid biosynthetic pathway had not been established in plants despite over 40 years of research. Co. elucidated the pathway by utilizing blocked mutants of microalgae to identify key enzyme activities and to convert intermediates to ascorbic acid. Additional work focused on the biochemistry of the pathway using peas and Arabidopsis for detecting key enzyme activities with scientific details described in a article (See Literature Ref.). Co. is representing this technology by offering licenses in all commercial plant areas
