Novartis signs genomics pact Genomics Collaborative Inc., a privately held biotech company, will conduct a large-scale human genetics research program with the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research Inc. Researchers at GCI and NIBRI will validate drug targets using GCI's library of human DNA, serum, and tissue samples, which are linked to clinical and demographic data. Up to 100 genetic targets will be evaluated in 1,000 to 2,000 clinical samples for each disease studied. The partners hope to prioritize and gauge the potential success of drug targets before beginning clinical trials. The two-year alliance, with an option for two additional years, will cover up to four therapeutic areas, including type 2 diabetes |
