OBSERVATION'S Ferritin Assay System
The Ferritin Assay System is intended for the quantitative immunological determination of human ferritin in serum.

There is a direct correlation between the concentration of Ferritin in serum to Ferritin stored in the tissues. This is confirmed in studies with patients who have developed iron deficiency or iron overload. Serum Ferritin levels below 10 ng/mL are indicative of iron deficiency anemia. In this context it may be possible that patients with iron deficiency anemia may have elevated or normal Ferritin levels because of other causes such as hepatocellular diseases or iron therapy1-3.

Elevated serum Ferritin levels may be observed in diseases such as pernicious anemia, Hodgkin’s disease, chronic inflammation, hepatocellular carcinoma, and rheumatoid arthritis. Iron overload after transfusion or hemodialysis results in temporary, markedly elevated serum Ferritin levels. A Ferritin determination for the assessment of a patient’s iron metabolism is particularly useful in combination with a transferring and iron test.

Expected values4:
Females 10-120 ng/mL
Males 20-300 ng/mL
