Drawn wire forming process, comprising drawing a wire of steel, said steel comprising Fe & following comp.: - C (0.005-0.05%) - N (0.005-0.05%) - Si (0.1-2%) - Mn (0.1-5%) - Ni (5-12%) - Cr (10-20%) - Cu (0.01-4%) - Mo (0.01-3%) - S (0.0001-0.03%) - P (0.005-0.1%) The steel compn satisfying relationship - 551-462x(C%+N%)-9.2xSi%-20xMn%-13.7xCr%-29x(Ni%+ Cu%)-18.5xMo% = -55 - -30 The wire being subjected to - Pre-drawing to a cumulative deformation = 2-4, to obtain a wire of 0.7-2 mm diam. - Annealing treat > 700C, permitting reconstitution of mainly austenitic soft-annealed structure - Final drawing to cumulative deformation ratio 3-4.5, to obtain drawn wire of 0.1-0.4 mm diam. The wire being maintained at < 600C between pre-drawing & final drawing operations, without annealing between the drawing operations |
